Can you and fellow participants enter the virtual world of the NASA Mission Control Center and successfully launch a rocket to the moon? You will need to support the space crew and ensure a successful space flight, as well as realise the mission’s strategic goals. There will be plenty of unforeseen events and problems along the way, and the only way you can ensure the success of the mission is by applying ITSM best practices.

Fifty-five hours and fifty-five minutes into the mission. Imagine you are on board Apollo 13 when one of your crew members reports hearing a loud ‘bang’. Your spacecraft is slowly dying. 

You have a serious problem, unless you and the ground support staff start working as a team to solve this problem. But remember, time is running out, fast! Welcome to the ‘Apollo 13 – an ITSM case experience™’ simulation game.

You will guide the crew through the launch, journey to and from the moon and to a safe return and splashdown, at the same time realizing the strategic goals for the mission.

It will not be easy

The organization understands ITSM as a complex implementation project, not as a tool for continuous improvement of IT Service Management.

We do not have clear business goals

The IT division is far too concentrated internally, it cannot focus on end users, resp. business and the benefits of "best practice" methodologies such as ITIL.

We cannot make changes

Too little attention is paid to the pillars of "ABC": personal attitude (Attitude), behavior (Behavior) and culture of organization (Culture). Another mistake is the insufficient competence to implement changes.

We need a change

You will learn the basics of ITIL along with the exciting experience of business simulation based on the actual Apollo 13 mission. The ITIL Foundation Certification course introduces IT Service Management (ITSM) concepts based on the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and describes how it can be applied within an IT organization. This course prepares students for ITIL Foundation examination and helps students to recognize the success factors in applying ITIL best practices.
